Imagine, in the near future, a broad-based revival of traditional Islamic scholarship that is at home in the diverse social and cultural milieu of America. At Zaytuna, we are committed to realizing this goal through offering a variety of high-quality educational programs, thought-provoking and relevant courses, and our developing full-time seminary. It is with this same core vision in mind that we introduce our latest project, the Zaytuna Summer Arabic Intensive.

Whether taught in a traditional Muslim seminary or in elite universities of North America and Europe, it is well recognized that a firm grounding in Arabic is one of the essential keys to advancing in the Islamic sciences. In this light, Zaytuna Institute is pleased to announce an eight-week intensive Arabic language program to be held in Berkeley, California beginning in summer 2008.

Open to students of all faiths and perspectives, our summer Arabic program is committed to facilitating the search for knowledge to all who desire to acquire it, while incorporating modern standards of academic excellence, pedagogical expertise, and a nourishing intellectual and spiritual environment for every step of your educational journey.

About the Program
The Zaytuna Summer Arabic Intensive provides introductory- and intermediate-level students with a rigorous, complete-immersion language experience in an Arabic-only environment, integrating the acquisition of listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills at an accelerated pace. By the end of the program, which is based on a communicative approach to studying Arabic, introductory students who have successfully completed all requirements will be qualified to enroll in a second-year university Arabic course, while intermediate graduates will be qualified to take advanced-level courses.

The Zaytuna Summer Arabic Intensive is designed to meet the objectives of 10-unit summer intensives offered at various American universities. As one of the few academic-centered Arabic intensives offered by a Muslim seminary in North America the program also offers students optional instruction in Qur’anic recitation (tajweed) and memorization (hifz). Additional features include convenient and secure housing within walking distance to classes and an exclusive guest lecture series by established scholars of Arabic and Islamic studies.
